The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a charge sheet against Teesta Setalvad as her organisation allegedly violated foreign funding rules. Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had filed a complaint against Setalvad of receiving funds from foreign without any permission from MHA.
After this complaint, the CBI registered a case against Teesta and her husband Javed Anand and later the charge sheet was filed in a Mumbai court on December 31. Another charge sheet has Sabrang Communications Pvt LTD, Javed Anand and Sushma Raman.
The MHA had already canceled the FCRA license of Greenpeace India and other two NGOs run by Teesta Setalvad and ordered a probe to confirm that whether the computer systems were hacked which caused the license renewal automatically.
As an MHA official mentioned the license renewal of Greenpeace India, Teesta’s NGOs Sabrang Trust and Citizens for Justice and Peace under Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) stands canceled with immediate effect.
Before Teesta’s organisation, the MHA had already faced a case when an NGO’s licenses were automatically renewed. Zakir Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation got its licenses renewed automatically but later four officials including a Joint Secretary had to face the suspension. Later, the government canceled the FCRA license of IRF permanently after declaring it as a terror outfit.
