CBSE expected to declare class 12 results soon, may not move SC over marks moderation policy

In its order that the Delhi High Court announced on Tuesday, it termed the CBSE's decision to do away with moderation marks policy as "unfair and irresponsible"

The Central Board of Secondary Education may not approach the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court decision to not scrap the marks moderation policy. Meanwhile, the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry on Thursday ordered the board to announce the results of Class XII on time.

In the second round of meeting of HRD ministry and CBSE officials with the legal counsel that took place on Thursday evening, the common view that came up was that moving to the apex court might not be useful as if the SC refused to intervene in the matter, it will lead to further delay in declaring of the results.

As per the Times of India report, after the legal opinion that the ministry received in a meeting on Wednesday, it was decided that the board will not approach the apex court and the moderation will be done as per rules set (in the examination bylaws of CBSE). But there will be no ‘artificial’ inflation of marks.

On Thursday, HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar assured that there will be no delay in the results. He said, “We are not bringing in any major changes in the current system. I want to assure everyone that no injustice
will be done.”

In its order that the Delhi high court announced on Tuesday, it termed the board’s decision to do away with moderation marks policy as “unfair and irresponsible”. Under the moderation marks policy, grace marks are given to students for difficult questions that are asked in the exam.
