Chhattisgarh Girl Aims To Become First Doctor In Naxal-Hit Dornapal

In Naxal infested Dornapal of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, Maya Kashyap has become the first girl to clear the MBBS entrance exam. Back in June, Maya had appeared for the annual National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and has now managed to secure a medical seat.

According to Maya, she had always dreamt of becoming a doctor, and now she is only a step closer to achieving that dream. However, it has not been easy. When she was in Class 6, Maya’s father died, leaving her in a state of financial crisis.

Speaking about her journey, she said, “My mother had to take care of my three siblings besides me. They too were studying in school at that time. I used to get Rs. 500 as pocket money for a month. Due to lack of funds, I faced a lot of issues while preparing for NEET, but since I was goal-oriented, I managed to overcome the hurdle and concentrated only on studies.”

Maya cleared the entrance in her second attempt and will now take an MBBS course from Ambikapur medical college. Once she completes her course and attains an MBBS degree in 2023, she will become the first doctor from Dornapal.

Now, she only hopes that after becoming a doctor, she can return to her hometown to help provide them with the healthcare facilities that they have been deprived of.
