The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday announced a ex-gratia compensation to the next kin for Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani’s brother, Khalid Muzaffar Wani, who was killed in firing by security forces last year.
The government has also given a week’s time for objections to be raised before the government issues a final order.
The J&K government cleared the exgratia for of 17 persons, who lost their lives in the militancy-related incidents in the state and among the 17 people was Khalid Muzaffar Wani.
The security forces had claimed that Khalid was “over-ground worker” of his brother Burhan Wani. The security forces claimed that Khalid was killed in an encounter. However, the locals rejected all the allegations and claimed that he had nothing to do with militancy.
25-year-old Khalid was studying Political Science at the Indira Gandhi National Open University.
According to the rules, the family is supposed to get a compensation of Rs 4 lakh or a government job if a compensation was being formally made.
Burhan Wani’s encounter was killed in an encounter by the security forces triggering massive protests in the valley that continued for more than 100 days. Hundreds were killed and thousands were injured in the agitated street protests in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
