People may argue that we as humans beings have increasingly become selfish and virtues like honesty and integrity hold no meaning today. But if we take a closer look we may find there is no dearth of good samaritans in the world. This Delhi driver’s selfless act restores our faith in human integrity. Debendra Kapri, a 24-year-old “kaali-peeli” taxi driver returned a bag full of valuables and gold jewellery after a passenger accidentally left the bag in the vehicle.
The officer manning the reception desk was shocked when he found that bag was containing gold jewellery, a laptop, one Apple iPhone, a camera, 70 US dollars and other documents. Debendra Kapri had picked up Mubisher Wani from the domestic airport in his ‘black-yellow’ taxi and dropped him in central Delhi’s Paharganj area last evening, police said.
After Wani got down, Kapri found that he had left his bag in the taxi. He wasted no time and quickly took the bag to the domestic airport police station and deposited it. The bag was found containing gold jewellery, laptop, an i-Phone, camera and US currency worth Rs eight lakh and other important documents like his passport and visa papers, DCP (Airport) Sanjay Bhatia told PTI.

Police found a wedding card in the bag and a mobile number on it. They contacted the number and it was found to be of Wani’s brother. He was informed about the incident. Wani arrived at the police station to claim the bag. He appreciated the taxi driver’s honesty, said the officer. Police have recommended that the driver be given a cash reward for his honesty.
