Don't ban beef, liquor, late night parties: NDA ally asks govt to be 'sensitive to traditions'

An ally from Kerala asked the party to stay away from controversial topic like beef banning and instead focus on working towards betterment of marginalised

In a first large scale meeting of  National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Monday evening , the allies have asked Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) to not get itself involved in controversies. An ally from Kerala has asked the party to stay away from controversial topic like beef banning and instead focus on working towards betterment of the poor and marginalised.

Head of the Janadhipathya Ooru Vikasana Munnani and a tribal leader from Kerala , C K Jaanu  said that the government should concentrate on programmes for Dalits, tribals and the downtrodden and not on “raising controversial topics like beef.”

In a report published in The Indian Express, leader of BJP ally Kerala Congress (T) P C Thomas, said that Jaanu raise the topic in the meeting in Malayalam and it was he who translated it to others.

On bannning cow slaughter Thomas said, “The Constitution makers felt they have to leave it (the issue of cow slaughter) tostates which would be more sensitive to the interests and traditions of the communities living there. Every community and its traditions should be respected and no such decision should be imposed.”

Also, an ally of party in Goa too raised the topic of banning music after 10 pm and the recent announcement by Supreme Court that curbs bars to not sell liquor within the 500 metres of the national highway. Vijai Sardesai, of Goa Forward Party said that these bans are affecting livelihood of people in Goa.

Meanwhile, both Sardesai and Thomas told that PM Narendra Modi said that he had noted the topics that were raised by the leaders.
