India & Pakistan will be worst affected if the earth gets warmer by 2 degree Celsius.
A United Nations report, released on Monday, has warned of a severe heatwave hitting the subcontinent if the earth keeps getting warmer.
A similar heatwave in 2015 had killed at least 2500 people.
Scientists from University of Washington, World Health Organisation and Climate tracker, have called for major transformation of society and “unprecedented” world economy to save life on the planet.
“The world cannot afford a warming of 2 C above the pre-industrial era. A 2 C warmer world will devastate economies and ecosystems and push hundreds of millions of people back into poverty,” Chandra Bhushan, Deputy Director General of NGO Centre for Science and Environment said.
According to CSE, India and other countries with large populations dependent on agriculture and fishery sectors will be highly impacted due to greater sea level rise, higher frequency of droughts and floods and heatwaves predicted by the IPCC climate change report, PTI reported.
At present level of emissions, the earth is bound pass the 1.5 degree Celsius marker between 2030-2050.
“The world needs a ‘Plan B’ to address climate change. India must take the lead in forming a global coalition for a 1.5 C world to save its poor and vulnerable population,” the CSE said.
