Everyday, These Kids In Assam Have To Sail On Banana Stems To Reach School

Last month, a video of young school children using aluminium pots to cross a river to reach their school had gone viral on social media.

School going is not always an adventure but for the kids of Kachomari Primary School in Assam’s Darrang district, it could be a matter of life and death.

In order to reach their school, the kids have to cross a river and there are no boats or bridges!

So how do they manage?

The kids cross the river on banana stems or on the shoulders of their parents. And this is a daily exercise.

Till now, the govt hasn’t done taken notice of the daily ordeal the school kids have to undergo daily.

Assam’s record in providing access to schools is not exceptional.
