In a barbaric act by Pakistan, Indian Army soldier Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh and Border Security Force (BSF) Head Constable Prem Sagar were killed and their bodies were mutilated on May 1. Special forces of Pakistan Army had sneaked about 250 metres across the Line of Control (LoC) into Indian territory to carry out the ambush in Poonch district which in Jammu. However, Pakistan has denied any role in the ‘dastardly’ attack.
As soon as the news broke out, there has been a growing demand for a retaliation and appropriate response from the Indian government and security forces. A day after the mutilation of Indian soldiers, several news channels reported that India had taken revenge by killing 7 Pakistani soldiers on Tuesday. However, a report published in the Hindustan Times has quoted a senior officer with the Army’s northern command claiming that no such attack had taken place against the Pakistani soldiers.
“There was no retaliation whatsoever by us in the KG sector on Monday night. They (TV channels) go ballistic without asking us anything. We will retaliate and when we do, we will come out with an official statement,” the Army officer was quoted as saying in Hindustan Times.

Neither the news of retaliation nor the denial was official but Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was quick to take credit of having taken revenge from Pakistan for the mutilation of Indian soldiers. In a debate on a television channel, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra claimed that two Pakistani posts were blasted by the Indian Army at the same location where Indian soldiers were killed. He also claimed that seven Pakistani soldiers have been killed in the attack by Indian forces.

Warning Pakistan, he also added that this was just a glimpse of what India can do and such acts of revenge will continue to take place. He made the statements while assuring the wife of martyr Paramjeet Singh that justice will be meted out.
