Found guilty in sexual harassment case, accused hurls slipper at judge in Kerala

The man had been held guilty of various offences in a 2014 case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act

A man convicted by a trial court in Kerala for sexually assaulting a minor hurled a slipper at the judge today after he was sentenced to 21 years in prison.

As soon as Additional Sessions Judge (ad hoc) I Panjabakesan of a local court in Wynad pronounced the sentence, convict Armugham removed one of his slippers and flung it at the judge, hitting him, the police said.

The man had been held guilty of various offences in a 2014 case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Armugham was arrested and a fresh case was registered against him, the police said.

This is not the first time when someone has hurled a shoe. Few days back, Gujarat Home Minister Pradip Jadeja became the victim of shoe attack when someone hurled a shoe at him, later the accused was arrested by the police.

The man was identified as Gopal Italia who threw a shoe on the minister when he was addressing a brief outside the Gujarat legislative assembly complex in Gandhinagar. Luckily, it missed the minister and Gopal was taken outside the assembly complex.

After the incident, Italia said, “The shoe signifies the anger of the unemployed youth of Gujarat.”
