A 38-year-old German woman tourist was allegedly sexually assaulted at Mamallapuram beach. In her complaint to the police, the victim alleged that she was forcibly taken away and sexually assaulted by some men, a district police official said.
The official said the incident took place when the victim was taking a stroll alone along the sea shore in the tourist town of Mamallapuram.
“She had walked a long distance away from the resort where she was staying. According to her, two persons dragged her into a casuarina grove and one of them raped her,” the police official said.
The woman was taken to a hospital for medical examination and the probe is on, he said. Several persons are being questioned and some of them have been detained, he added.
Mamallapuram is famous for its stone sculptures and is around 60 km from Chennai.
Earlier, in another horrific incident, a physically challenged 11-year old minor girl was allegedly raped inside the premises of Lord Jagannath temple, Bandipara, Odisha on March 31. Protesting against the shameful act, the angry locals burned tires, blocked the road and demanded a strict punishment for the accused on April 1. The victim’s father has lodged a police complaint against the accused.
The incident took place when the girl went inside the temple for ‘Darshan’ of the Lord. The 32-year-old accused Guru Charan Behere dragged the minor to the bathing mandap of the Lord and raped her.
Hearing the screams of the girl, locals rushed to the stop to rescue her. They nabbed the accused and thrashed him before handing over to the police.
