A 12-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu killed herself after she was allegedly reprimanded by her teacher for having got her uniform and the bench stained from menstrual blood. The class 7th girl studied at school in Senthil Nagar in Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu. She jumped off a 25-foot-high building from the terrace of her neighbour’s house in her hometown in Tirunelvelli.
The parents had no idea why she took the drastic step until they found her letter in which she had said that her friends had pointed out that her bench and uniform had menstrual blood on them and when she asked her teacher if she could excuse herself to go to the restroom, her teacher yelled. She was scolded in front of her classmates for not having been able to ‘even place her pad properly’ and was then asked to leave the room.

As per reports, the teacher took her to the principal who also scolded and humiliated the girl for being ‘careless’. After the girl’s death, the teacher is now facing charges of abetment of suicide. What is even more distressing is the fact the teacher who chided the girl for menstrual blood is herself a woman.
She also wrote in her suicide note that why would the teacher complain about her for this issue: “I don’t know what to say. Until now you didn’t hear any complaint about me but why did the teacher complain about me like this?
Her parents, devastated by the death of their daughter, along with other people protested in front of the school. The police convinced the crowd to disperse after assuring them of appropriate action.
