Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet campaign- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, a Surat based diamond merchant has donated a whopping Rs 200 crore to 10,000 girl children.
The man behind this huge donation has been identified as Laljibhai Badshah, a major real estate player and co-founder of Diamond Aeronautics in Surat
Badshah gave Rs 2 lakh bond each to the parents of girl child born in 2015-16 in Patidar community. The bonds were distributed so that they do not have to bother about their education and marriages. The project has been called ‘Badshah Sukanya scheme’.

He had earlier said that his announcement is a “small contribution” to the ongoing ‘beti bachao, beti padhao’ campaign of the Union government.
Notedly, Badshah is the same man who had offered Rs 4 crore to buy the PM Modi’s controversial suit that had ‘Narendra Damodardas Modi’ monogrammed as pinstripes. He lost the bid to another Gujarat businessman by a margin of Rs 31 lakh. Badshah had then committed he will donate Rs 200 crore to 10,000 girls what he described as his contribution in women empowerment. Badshah is not new to philanthropy. Only last year he had gifted bonds of Rs 2 lakh each to 5,000 newborn girls of the Patidar community in Gujarat.
