Gujarat Man Seeks Divorce Saying His ‘Wife Has Beard’ & ‘Sounds Like A Man’

The man argued that he had no idea about the physical appearance of his wife because when they first met before marriage, the woman was wearing a veil.

A man’s plea to divorce his wife on grounds that “she has a beard” and “sounds like a man” left the Ahmedabad court baffled, which rejected the petition.

In a petition before judge N M Karovadiya, the man argued that he had no idea about the physical appearance of his wife because when they first met before marriage, the woman was wearing a veil, and seeing her at that time would have been against tradition, PTI reported.

According to the petitioner, After his meeting with the woman, his in-laws fixed their engagement in a short period. During marriage also, he could not see his wife’s face. “When I saw her for the first time, she was clean-shaven with a lot of make-up.”

After seven days of their marriage, I went out of town for a work assignment. But when I returned home, I found beard on her face and realised that she sounds like a man, claimed the petitioner, as reported by Ahmedabad Mirror.

The wife, in her reply to the plea, admitted that she had some facial hairs due to certain hormonal imbalance, but they could be removed through treatment.

The wife’s counsel objected to man’s allegations, arguing that her husband was citing false reasons to get divorce as he wanted to kick her out of the house.

The wife’s lawyer also claimed that man’s family had demanded dowry and now she is being tortured mentally and physically by her in-laws.

After the wife’s counsel made the submissions, the man did not show up for further proceeding prompting the court to reject his petition.
