The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon has reportedly decided to put up a “parking free” sign boards at malls and other buildings on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon (MG) road. The Municipal corporation has taken this move in a bid to address the issue of illegal parking and the paid parking service by several malls in the area.
The municipal body has decided to put up free parking banners after some of the mall goers in the area complained that the mall was allegedly charging them a parking fee. “We have started placing notice boards on the entry of malls which reads ‘The basement parking of this mall is free as per declaration of mall-owner’,” MCG Commissioner V Umashankar was quoted as saying.
The signboards have been put up in the several malls in the area including Sahara Mall, MGF Metropolitan, City Mega mall, Ambiance, ABW Tower, Sewa Corporate Park, Platinum Mall, Vipul Agora, First India Place and DLF Corporate Park.
It was earlier reported that the over 45 malls and other buildings situated on MG Road and Sohna Road would offer car parking free of cost to the public to tackle the traffic congestions in the city.
The mall owners had to waive off the parking fees on their basements after MCG directed them to do so. MCG Commissioner had stated they decided to specifically choose the MG Road and Sohna road locality considering that the issue of illegal parking is rampant in the area and people avoid parking in the mall basement because they don’t want to pay leading to traffic on the roads.
“We have specifically chosen MG Road and Sohna road, where illegal parking is rampant. People generally don’t park in the basements as they have to pay for it. Now, that parking there has been made free, we hope people would not leave their vehicles on the roads and cause unnecessary congestions,” MCG commissioner had said.
