The Kherki Daula toll plaza in Gurugram, Haryana connects the National Capital Region (NCR) with Manesar, the state’s automobile hub. With over 80,000 vehicles passing through it every day, the toll plaza often witnesses major traffic bottlenecks. But the toll booth employees are the ones left to tackle irate commuters. They are often subject to verbal abuse, harassment and assault by those who don’t pay the toll. Last week, a woman toll collector was assaulted by locals from nearby villages when the latter was asked to pay up for the toll. InUth visited this toll plaza and spoke to the employees, who narrated how harassment for them is an everyday affair.
