In a bid to educate woman about menstrual hygiene the Haryana government is all set to install automatic sanitary napkins vending machines in government colleges across the state.
“The vending machines were being installed to ensure an effective and convenient mode for any time access to the sanitary napkins. The purpose is to promote safe and hygienic sanitary practices among the women and girls,” an official statement release by the government stated.
The spokesperson of the Higher Education Department asserted that the move was being taken is an effort to do away with the taboos surrounding menstruation and sanitary napkins. He said it is strange that the women are still embarrassed to speak openly about menstruation. He further added that girls out adopt unhygienic methods which are absolutely unsafe for use just because they are embarrassed to speak about the issue or go the pharmacy shops and buy the sanitary napkins adding that some even go on dumping used sanitary napkins causing further hygine problems.
“Disposal of used sanitary napkins has been a very common problem everywhere. Girls do not like to carry their used sanitary napkins or pads to a bin in front of family and friends,” he said.
