Hauz Khas rape case: Policemen posed as Aadhaar officials to arrest accused

The Delhi Police team not just camped at the Deer Park but also posed as Aadhaar officials to nab the accused in the Hauz Khas rape case

In an out-of-the-box strategy, the Delhi Police officers posed as government officials to nab the accused in the Hauz Khas rape case. After the woman approached the police, several teams, including the special staff, were formed by DCP (south) Ishwar Singh.

The team posed as government officials making Aadhaar cards and asked his mother about his whereabouts. When they got to know that he had not been home since Monday, they waited outside his home and finally arrested him when he came home around 11.45 pm on Monday. Ten police teams were formed to trace the accused and his friend.

The accused’s family has stated that they had disowned their 19-year-old son three months ago after they found that he was involved in “various thefts” in the area. The father of the accused works as a cleaner in a school. He said that he had warned his son many times not to indulge in illegal activities but his son paid no attention.

He also added that his son studied up to Class V after which he stopped going to school.

The incident took place on February 18, when a woman from Manipur, was returning from a party in Hauz Khas village, along with her friends and cousins.

The woman told police that the incident took place when the accused offered to drop her home.

According to the victim, the accused told her that his car was parked at some distance and led her to the adjoining Deer Park, where he allegedly raped her.
