Here We Go Again: Bengaluru’s Bellandur Lake’s Frothing Again

Once a popular boating and fishing site, this lake has been reduced to being labelled the 'largest septic tank' of the city.

Bellandur lake in Bengaluru has started to froth again. For the last few days, it has been emitting toxic white froth that’s spilling over to nearby areas. Spread over 906 acres in south eastern Bengaluru, Bellandur is the largest lake in the city. Once a popular boating and fishing site, this lake has been reduced to being labelled the ‘largest septic tank’ of the city. As per the Karnataka Lake Development Authority, it collects 40 percent of the city’s sewage due to the discharge of untreated industrial effluents.
On multiple occasions, it has caught fire triggering major environmental threat.
