‘Hindutva groups did not fight for India’s Independence,’ Prashant Bhushan tweets out proof

Prashant Bhushan has claimed that Hindutva groups have not participated in India's struggle for independence and most slogans were coined by Muslims

Noted Indian lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan has claimed that most of the famous slogans used during the Independence movement were coined by the Muslims. He added that the “Hindutva groups” did not contribute to fighting for India’s independence from the British empire.

Prashant Bhushan created a stir on social media after he claimed that starting from the slogan “Jai Hind” to “Inquilab Zindabad” were all created by the Muslim individuals involved in the freedom struggle and not the Hindus.

“Most of the revolutionary slogans and songs coined in Indep struggle were created by Muslims.The Hindutva groups did not even fight for Independence,” Prashant Bhushan Tweeted along with pictures showing examples of the slogans and their alleged author. The tweet did not go down too well with a number of social media users where Twitterati slammed him for communalising the independence struggle. Some also urged him to read more and not to create a divide in the name of religion.

Citing excerpts collected from Ali Nadeem Rezavi Professor & Chairman Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University Prashant Bhushan also asserted that Surayya Tayyabji was the one who made an immense contribution in coming up with the design and colours in the Indian flag. He added that it was Yusuf Meher Ali who came up with the slogan “Simon Go Back”.

This is not the first time that Prashant Bhushan has found himself on the receiving end of a barrage of criticism for controversial statements. This comes just months after the Bharatiya Janata Party filed a police complaint against him after he called Lord Krishna a “legendary eve teaser”.

Taking a jibe on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s anti-Romeo squads, Prashant Bhushan said, “Romeo loved just one lady, while Krishna was a legendary Eve teaser.Would Adityanath have the guts to call his vigilantes AntiKrishna squads?”
