Over 100 self-styled Hindutva ‘activists’ brandishing swords, sticks and batons roamed around many parts of Gurugram and forcibly shut meat shops on April 6 ahead of the nine-day Chaitra Navratri festival. While chanting ‘Jai Mata Di’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’, the men threatened meat shop owners to pull down their shutters as it could ‘hurt Hindu sentiments’. The videos of the incident have gone viral but no complaint has been filed yet. Police officials have however maintained that the videos are being examined. Since 2017, Gurugram has witnessed a spate of incidents where meat shops were forcibly closed during Navratris by Hindutva activists from Shiv Sena, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Hindu Sena.
