Non-Vegetarian food lovers in Hyderabad will have to be extra cautious as the GHMC’s crackdown has exposed the lack of hygiene and poor food standards in the city eateries and hotels. The health and sanitation wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has raided as many as 69 hotels since Monday of which 54 were found using stale meat and had dirty kitchens.
Sights of sewer water sweeping into the meat and vegetables were witnessed by the municipal officers during raids, Times of India reported. The hotels that came under civic body’s radar were Pride of Hyderabad hotel at Kukatpally, New Green Bawarchi at Vanasthalipuram, Green Bawarchi and Pebbals Bar and Restaurant at LB Nagar, and Golden restaurant and bar at Hastinapuram, among others, according to the daily.
This happened despite municipal body’s warning to the eateries to maintain hygiene in the premises and use only stamped goat meat from legal slaughterhouses. ” Despite quality meat available from slaughterhouses, most hotels and shopkeepers buy meat from private butchers, violating rules. Food inspectors under section 674 of HMC Act are authorised to seize these,” a food inspector had earlier told Deccan Chronicle. Fines were levied on some sweet shops also for poor hygiene.
