I think of death at least six times a day, says Dalai Lama

"I think of death at least six times a day. But I do not know if I will be able to practice them when death comes," the Dalai Lama said

Amid the ongoing row over his visit to Arunachal Pradesh, the Dalai Lama was on Wednesday seen interacting
with locals, giving them answers on spirituality. Speaking at Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh, the Dalai Lama said he thinks of death at least six times a day and also told those present about his views on rebirth.

“I think of death at least six times a day. But I do not know if I will be able to practice them when death comes,” the Dalai Lama was quoted in a report in NDTV.

For years, the role of Dalai Lama has been filled through “reincarnation”. The “reincarnation” of the Dalai Lama has been much talked about and Beijing has been pressing for control over the process of finding the next one. However, the present Dalai Lama has stated that the role has to end one day and it is better to have no Dalai Lama rather than having “a stupid one”.

At a recent interview also, he had said that it will be his decision whether he will be reborn and not the Chinese government. “I may be the last Dalai Lama,” he had said, at a recent interview.

Speaking on Wednesday as well, he said: “The mind is still there after death and decides on rebirth. Otherwise, many reincarnations are rubbish, including myself.”
