There are people who help others selflessly and Jharkhand’s KK Khandelwal, an IAS officer, is one such person. He provided free coaching to six IIT aspirants and all of them were successful in cracking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2017. Among his six students, one is a tribal and other is OBC. The admission to 23 IITs and the Indian School of Mines (ISM) in Dhanbad depends on the ranking in JEE (Advanced).
KK Khandelwal, a 54-year-old, transport and civil aviation secretary of Jharkhand selected these students by conducting a written exam in October 2014. From then, he used to take out time from his busy schedule to teach Physics and Mathematics to all six of them at a school campus in Ranchi.
Among all the students he coached, Yash Raj secured All India Rank (AIR) 224, Aranya Aryaman AIR 570, Mayank Kumar AIR 827, and Amitanshu Kumar secured the 2814th position. Rai Apurav Nath and Mayank Kumar Meena secured the AIR 3210 and 3624 respectively.
In 2013, he also helped his son, Anupam in the preparation who bagged AIR 9 which is till date the highest rank ever achieved by someone from the state. Prior to that, he also coached his elder son Ankur, who bagged AIR 570, in 2011.

1988 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, Khandelwal said, “I have always enjoyed teaching, probably, this is the reason I managed to find time for the students after my day’s work. The time I spent with the kids reenergised me”. “I cannot express in words how I feel; it is a wonderful feeling when your students achieve something”.
Around 2.20 lakh students appeared for the JEE Advanced exam 2017, however, only 1.7 lakh took the exam. For the first time ever, IITs held the test in other countries too and the six centres to choose from were Singapore, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Ethiopia and the UAE.
