Wife of an IAS officer has reportedly lodged a complaint with the police alleging that a priest of Baidyanathdham temple in Jharkhand. In her complaint, the woman has alleged that the priests manhandled her and her friends at the temple on Monday.

According to a report in Times of India, the incident took place when the IAS officer’s wife and her friend were on their way to sanctum sanctorum. .”The moment the priests saw both of us joining the queue they started behaving like rowdies and called us outsiders,” Times of India quoted the woman as saying. The woman who has been identified as Parinita Kumari said in her complaint that she did manage to reach inside amid the “chaos” and “stampede-like situation”. However, her friend was left behind, the daily reported.

She further asserted that the priests did not listen to her while she pleaded them and even allegedly went on to abuse her and attempted to “bang” her head on the wall. “He did not listen to my pleas. Despite knowing my identity the priest caught hold of my neck, abused me and tried to bang my head on the wall in front of me,” Parinita said.

Another priest allegedly rescued her and helped her come outside. The report stated that in the police complaint Parinita also alleged that the security officials standing inside the temple premises took no action and silently watched as the woman was being roughed up by the priest. “It is high time the government rid the temple of priests to ensure the dignity of women and common pilgrims,” she said.
