IIM-C registers 31% of women students this time, sets a record

This proportion of women in IIMC batch of 2017-18 is highest till date. Also, among the top three IIMs ( Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta) this is highest women representation in the recent years

The batch of 2017-19 of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta  (IIM-C) has registered an increase in the number of women students from last year. Setting a record, out of the total new students, 31% are women this time which is till date the highest number of girl students in IIM-C. Also, among the top three IIMs ( Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta) this is highest women representation in the recent years.

One advantage that girls had this time was that they got few ‘extra’ points at the pre-interview stage. Previous years also saw women students getting three more points (out of 100) at the pre-interview level. IIM-C admission chairperson Pritam Basu said, “The girls performed incredibly well in the interview and got through on their own steam. This year girls were given two extra marks out of a total 50 marks (or 4%). This mark-up was part of a deliberate policy change to bring more gender diversity on the campus”.
