The Indian Institute of Technology has received as many as 50 proposals from academic as well as top research institutes to explore the beneficial effect of benefits of ‘panchagavya’—a mixture of cow products such as urine, dung, milk, ghee and curd. It is part of SVAROP programme which is an acronym for Scientific Validation And Research On ‘Panchgavya’.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Y S Chowdhary, the Minister of State in the Science and Technology Ministry, informed that at a brainstorming workshop took place at IIT Delhi, where the concept ideas and proposals related to the SVROP programme were discussed. The minister added that after which IIT Delhi has received about 50 Research and Development proposals from academic as well as research institutes.
V.K. Vijay, head of the centre for rural development and technology at IIT Delhi said, “Yes, we have received proposals from CSIR labs, IITs, NITs (national institutes of technology), and agricultural institutions among others. We have not finalized any projects yet as they are being evaluated”.

The government has also formed a national steering committee (NSC) to start the SVAROP programme, which has scientists, secretaries of scientific and three people linked to RSS and VHP as its members. The committee is to be headed by Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan and the co-chairman is Vijay Bhatkar. Bhatkar is known as the architect of super-computer series.

A senior scientist with CSIR on the condition of anonymity said, “The SVAROP programme is taking what is written in traditional texts and non-scientific literature as the truth and embarking on a high-cost project”.
