Women Commandos from the Northeast may soon reportedly be deployed in the “Parakram” vans that were launched in the month of May for anti-terror and other operations requiring an armed response. The women commandos who’ll be brought from the North Eastern states will receive training from the e National Security Guard (NSG), Special Cell and other security agencies.

In 2016, over 400 people belonging to the Northeastern states were admitted into the Delhi Police forces under a Special Recruitment Drive following government’s orders. Out of the 400, 134 were women.

However, it is being reported that the women will be inducted inside the Parakram vans after taking their approval. The Commandos who will be deployed inside the Parakram Vans will have to soft but at the same time should have the ability the respond quickly. “Those who are selected for Parakram will get an advanced commando training, especially to counter terror attack-like situations. They have to be preemptive and soft. They have to understand the situation and react instantly. Therefore, we will also impart them knowledge about vulnerable areas and buildings,” Dependra Pathak Special Commissioner of Police (operations) was quoted as saying.

Special and expensive range of equipments will be used to train the Commandos. Earlier this month, the Delhi Police had inducted 15 Parakram Vans ahead of Independence Day to avoid any terror activities. The Commandos inside the Parakram Vans are well-equipped with arms including MP-5 and AK-47 rifles. They were also reportedly provided with body-worn cameras, stunner guns and anti-ballistic goggles to counter terrorism.

Delhi Police had deployed 10 Parakram vans in May in Vijay Chowk, Palika Bazar, Saket Select City Mall, Police Headquarters, Pacific Mall, Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple, Chandni Chowk, the RSS headquarters in Jhandewalan and DLF Mall in Vasant Kunj.
