An online video purportedly showing a group of six young men molesting a girl and ripping her clothes off in Bihar's Jehanabad has sparked outrage

A video purportedly showing a group of six young men molesting a girl and ripping her clothes off in Bihar’s Jehanabad has sparked outrage after it was posted online.

The girl could be seen defending herself from the molesters, who are heard laughing and jeering while attempting to disrobe her. While resisting their advances, she falls on the ground, but later regains consciousness and tries to escape. The boys in the video seem to be in their teens. The witnesses apparently did nothing except for recording the incident.

After the video went viral, Bihar police swung into action and arrested four of the accused in connection with the incident, News Agency ANI reported. Two more attackers in the clip are still at large. A motorcycle belonging to one of them, which was also seen in the video served as a vital clue to arrest one of the accused.

The FIR was lodged against unknown persons with the Town police station in Jehanabad based on the registration number of a motorcycle. The mobile phone with which the video was shot has been recovered by the police. Senior IPS officer Nayyar Hasnain Khan has formed a special team to probe the incident, which has outraged thousands since it surfaced online.

Jehanabad District SP Maneesh said the police took cognizance of the matter and started investigation in the case.

“We have commenced our investigation to ascertain the truth behind the video, though neither the victim nor anyone else has come forward to lodge a complaint in this regard. It is also unclear as to which place the incident has taken place, but the investigation is proceeding on the basis of the bike registration number,” DNA quoted him as saying.

The police is yet to verify whether the victim was a minor or an adult. Amid nationwide anger over the Kathua and Unnao rape cases, the centre recently brought in death penalty for child rape through an ordinance.
