Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the first hanging bridge in Rajasthan. The bridge is built across the Chambal river which is situated at Kota and is the first 6-lane cable suspended bridge in the state. PM Modi inaugurated the bridge via video conferencing from Udaipur, Rajasthan.
He dedicated the bridge to the nation and said for past 11 years the project was pending and it should have been built within one to one-and-a-half years. After the formation of our government in 2014, we restarted work and now the cable-stayed bridge is being dedicated to the nation today”, said PM Modi.

The cost of the project was Rs 278 crore in and its length is 1.4 km in Kota. The hanging bridge is going to benefit the residents of Hadouti region of Rajasthan

In November 2006, the work for the bridge started but as pillars collapsed in December 2009, the construction work was halted.

There is a state of the art system which is capable of handling extreme traffic-jam situations, handle heavy rains, winds, storms. It is also equipped with earthquake notification.

The project of Chambal river bridge has come under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Regional officer, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Rajasthan, MK Jain said, “This bridge will reduce commuting time by 60 minutes through National Highway no 27 (Kota-Chittor National Highway) and National Highway no 12 (Kota-Jhalawar NH). Earlier, commuters had to pass through traffic in Kota City but now they can bypass Kota City within 15 minutes”.
