India's First Visually-Impaired Woman IAS Officer Takes Charge As Kerala Sub-collector

India’s first visually-impaired woman IAS officer took charge as the Sub-collector of Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
Pranjal Patil, who hails from Maharashtra’s Ulhasnagar, lost her vision at the age of 6. “We should never give up with our efforts we all will get that one breakthrough that we want”, she told media.
In 2016, Pranjal cleared UPSC Examination in her first attempt with a rank of 773 and got a job offer at Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS). But she was later refused appointment owing to her visual impairment. Beating the odds, the 30-year-old prepared for the examination again and secured the 124th rank. She was appointed as Ernakulam Assistant Collector during her training period.
