In the rarest of the case, a baby girl is born with her heart beating outside her body in Madhya Pradesh. The newborn is fighting for her life with a medical condition called ‘Ectopia Cordis’, in which heart beats outside the body of the patient.
The happiness of the parents and the relatives welcoming the arrival of the new member in the family soon turned into sorrows when they came to know about her medical condition. The father of the girl Arvind Patel lives in Khajuraho and works as a private security guard at the world heritage site Khajuraho temple. Unable to bear the expensive medical treatments he asked for help.
According to the reports published in the ‘Hindustan Times’, at Khajuraho Primary Health Center my wife Prem Kumari gave birth to the girl child on April 5 around 3.26 am who was having her heart outside. The doctor referred us to Chhatarpur district hospital but did not give us anything in writing.”
Medical experts say, the occurrence of such case is 8 per 10 lakh births.
Arvind said the doctors at Chhatarpur district hospital told us that her treatment will be very expensive and cost around Rs 25-30 lakh. “My elderly father who was with us became ill due to tension and next day we came back to Khajuraho,” he added.
Later, Arvind received a call from the district hospital informing that the child will be referred to Gwalior, where she was admitted at Gajraja Medical College.
Dr. SK Gupta from Khajuraho Health Center informed that the babygirl’s medical condition. He said, it is a very rare disease and for the first time it has been reported in Khajuraho.
Civil surgeon, Chhatarpur district hospital, Dr. RS Tripathi, said that they had referred her to Gwalior Medical College, due to the rarity of the medical condition.However, the newborn was referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal.
