Thousands gather at marina beach to support Jallikattu, demand SC to uplift its order

Protesters believe that it is a part of their culture and also demand Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam statement on it.

Night long protests on Jallikattu escalates as thousands of people are now gathered at Marina beach in Chennai demanding lift on Supreme Court’s ban on the famous bull taming sport. Protesters believe that it is a part of their culture and also demand Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam’s statement on it.

Later, AIADMK in a tweet wrote, ‘CM requests both youth and protesters to give up their protests’.

As the agitation grows across Tamil Nadu, protesters from Madurai to Chennai join in, they also demand banning on PETA

Reacting on the mass protest, Senior BJP member Pon Radhakrishnan said, ” Political parties should not accuse centre for the ban”.

Last week Supreme Court rejected a petition demanding uplifting of ban on jallikattu. People in favour of the sport told court that for regulating culture law should not be used but the apex court stood firm on the decision.

Meanwhile, it has got support from many actors like Kamal Hasan, Rajinikanth Suriya and many more in the past. They have voiced their support for jallikattu and are also supporting the protest that is taking place at Marina beach.

If reports are to be believed Chief Minister might issue statement later in the day.

On tuesday the protest stepped up when police detained around 250 agitators, and released most of them later.It took a ugly turn when hearing about the detention more than 3000 people turned up at the place of protest against the detention.

Despite ban Jallikattu was organised on the last day of Pongal on January 16 in Kanjirangudi, Ramanathapuram.
