Jammu woman alleges cop stripped her, inserted beer bottle, chilli powder in private parts

The Jammu resident had been in custody over allegations of theft by a couple for whom she was working as a domestic help

A 25-year-old woman in Kanachak area of Jammu has accused a station house officer of sexually assaulting her and torturing her for over a week while she was in custody there. She along with her husband has alleged that he forcibly stripped her, inserted a beer bottle and chilli powder in her private parts.

She had been in custody over allegations of theft by a couple for whom she was working as a domestic help. There are also allegations that her husband was arrested when he came to visit her while she was in custody.

The SHO who has been accused in the case, however, has denied the allegations and claimed that the woman is a “habitual offender”. He also alleged that she had been earlier arrested in Punjab in connection with cases related to theft and narcotics.

Vijay Atri, the victim’s lawyer, has claimed that 11 injury marks have been found on her body during her medical examination. The lawyer also asserted that the way the woman has been attacked is similar to the December 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case that took place in Delhi.

Though the woman has been granted bail and admitted to a hospital in Gandhi Nagar in Jammu, her husband is claiming that she is not getting the best treatment. A special investigation team has been appointed to probe the allegations in the case.

The Prime Minister’s Office has stepped into the controversy with Minister of State PMO Dr Jitendra Singh asking the Jammu and Kashmir government to look into the issue.

Requesting the #Jammu #Kashmir State Govt to immediately look into it. https://t.co/Iua2xJVEer
