In a bid to increase their demand for reservations in educational institutions and government jobs, Jat agitation has reached New Delhi. Members of the community will hold a rally in the national capital’s Jantar Mantar on March 2 and will also present a memorandum to the President Pranab Mukherjee over the reservation issue.
Yashpal Malik, the president of All-India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) said, “members of Jat community from various states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh will stage the protest at 11 am on March 2 in New Delhi.”
Besides seeking quota in education and government jobs under Other Backward Classes category, the demands of the Jats include release of those jailed during last year’s agitation, withdrawal of cases slapped during the protest and government jobs for the kin of those killed and injured while taking part in the stir.
“Movement will continue till our demands are met, government has to find solutions. Essential supplies will be affected when march will be held in Delhi in the coming time”, said Malik.

On February 26, ‘Black Day’ was observed by Jats in Haryana who have carrying out protests for over a month now. This time the Jat agitation is being supported by the main opposition party in Haryana the INLD. The INLD has asked the government to meet their demands.
Last year, too, the community carried out protest in various parts of Haryana which later took an ugly turn. Some places like Rohtak and Sonipat were badly hit. It was during the agitation around 30 people were killed and property worth crores was damaged.
