It’s official! Idea and Vodafone have announced their merger on Twitter. Thanks to its current combined strength of 408 million active users, Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group and Vodafone Idea Limited’s remark that the merger has created ‘India’s leading telecom operator’, seems on point. With this, the telecom sector now has three major private companies and the state-operated BSNL fighting it out.

After the official announcement, Twitter did have a rather expected meltdown. Leading from the front was Reliance Jio Infocomm’s Twitter account, with sass to die for:
Bringing people together since 2016. @VodafoneIN @Idea #WithLoveFromJio https://t.co/A7iDw6awvK
– Reliance Jio (@reliancejio) August 31, 2018
And then, the ‘haveli’ pun happened:
@VodafoneIN @Idea AAO KABHI HAVELI PE.! #WithLoveFromJio https://t.co/9w1CHizjUI
– JioGigaFiber (@JioGigaFiber) August 31, 2018
On August 30, The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the much-speculated merger to create the country’s biggest telecom operator.
Aditya Birla group sent out the official announcement:
It is official!
