One militant was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Bandipora district in north Kashmir on Thursday morning.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in Aragam village of Bandipora, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, an army official said.
He said as the forces were conducting the search operation, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter. Forces have recovered a weapon from the site of encounter.
As the encounter got over, protest broke out in the area. Locals started demanding the body of deceased militant triggering the protest.
This is the third foil by the Indian army after Uri attack in which 18 soldiers were killed.
