In a funny incident, on April 8 a prisoner at a jail in Nettukaltheri in Thiruvananthapuram managed to escape from the prison but only to return to the jail after three days as he remained hungry for all these days after not getting anything to eat.
Abdul Razaq, a 36-year-old prisoner who belongs to Bengal managed to run away from prison on Saturday night and came back on Tuesday.
In a report published in The News Minute, Superintendent of Open Jail at Nettukaltheri, Samson said, “He was very tired when he returned and asked us for food at first. He told us he was hiding somewhere in bushes outside the jail. But he might have roamed around somewhere.”
After he came back, police took his mobile phone and registered a complaint in the matter. Razaq told officials that he was worried that he might be sent to the central jail as warden has taken his phone.
The day he escaped the jail, officials found him standing outside when they questioned he said that he had gone to fetch mangoes but in few minutes he disappeared after which extensive search was launched to find him.
For running from jail, Razaq’s phone was seized by the warden and he was made to sit at the superintendent’s room the whole day as a punishment.
The official said, “As he ran away from prison, we had to file a case with the police. He might have escaped the jail out of fear and had returned, but have to take actions as per procedures,” the officer said.
