Days after the flood waters started receding in Kerala, a video of bikers forming a long queue, allegedly waiting to purchase alcohol, went viral. It was only when BOOM — an International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN)-certified fact-driven resource — clarified that the queue was, in fact, not in front of a wine shop, but a petrol pump.

The video had gone viral along with the caption “The only wine shop in Thrissur, #Kerala opened today after 6 days. See the discipline. Hats off.” However, BOOM later debunked the claim with their ground report affirming that the video was filmed at Thrissur Road in Edappal, a small town in Malappuram district.
Reportedly, people had lined up in front of the petrol pump due to a shortage of fuel in the region following the recent devastating floods in Kerala. According to the BOOM report, the video must have been filmed between August 19 – 20, 2018 and the queue extended up to half-a-kilometre.
