Kingfisher loan case: Vijay Mallya ready for settlement with Banks, FM says govt trying to get him back

Vijay Mallya in one of his tweets asked, "Public Sector Banks have policies for One Time Settlements. Hundreds of borrowers have settled. Why should this be denied to us?"

As the Government is trying to get Vijay Mallya back in India through extradition or deportation in the loan default case, liquor baron on March 10 took to Twitter to make an offer for one-time settlement with the banks. Kingfisher Airlines, the license of which was revoked in Feb 2013, owes Rs 9,000 crore from various banks, including state-owned SBI.

Vijay Mallya in one of his tweets asked, “Public Sector Banks have policies for One Time Settlements. Hundreds of borrowers have settled. Why should this be denied to us?”

Mallya in a series of tweets also requested Supreme Court to intervene in the matter he said, “Wish the Hon’ble Supreme Court would intervene and put an end to all this by directing Banks and us to negotiate and settle. We are ready.”

The businessman said that he has humbly obeyed every single Court order without exception but it seems that the government is bent upon holding him guilty without fair trial.

“The allegations against me by the Attorney General before the Honourable Supreme Court only prove the attitude of the Government against me,” said Mallya.

Wish the Hon’ble Supreme Court would intervene and put an end to all this by directing Banks and us to negotiate and settle. We are ready.

“Relevant agencies are trying to get him back through extradition or deportation. Diplomatic channel is also being used,” Jaitley said in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour.

Jaitley made the statement while responding to Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy’s query. in which he has asked about the steps being taken by the government against high-profile economic offenders like Mallya and Lalit Modi.

“In the last two and a half years, the government has taken a series of steps. Under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, attachment orders against Mallya have been issued by ED (Enforcement Directorate). Assets worth Rs 8,040 crore were attached,” Jaitley said.
