There is no doubt that India’s economy is growing at a fast pace. With an improvement in gender equality, both men and women are helping India touch new highs of success. The country is already home to several billionaires and the list is only increasing every year. When we mention Indian billionaires, the names of Mukesh Ambani, Azim Premjee, Sunil Mittal pop up in our mind but very few of us would be able to gather the name of women billionaires who are hugely contributing to country’s GDP too.

Here’s the list of top five richest Indian women.

Savitri Jindal:

As the non-executive chairperson of the OP Jindal group which is into steel, power and mining sectors, Savitri Jindalis believed to be the richest woman in Asia. Every year, she finds a mention in the Forbes list of richest people around the world. As per the Forbes richest Indian list, she and her family secured the 303rd position with a net worth of $5.2 billion.

Smita Crishna Godrej:

With a net worth of $2.9 billion, she stood at the 814th rank in the 2017 Forbes list of richest people in the world. A member of Godrej family, she has one-fifth stake in the family assets. On the list of richest Indians, she has secured 38th position. The 66-year-old made the headlines after she bought a heritage bungalow in Mumbai. The bungalow was once owned by Homi Jehangir Bhabha who is known as father of Indian Nuclear Programme.

Founder of Biocon, which is the largest biotech company in India, Kiran has the net worth of $2,4 billion that makes her one the richest women in the country. Biocon is largest insulin producer and the company is now focusing on a 10% share of the global market. She was ranked 973th in the Forbes list of 2017 of richest people in the world and 65th position in the Forbes list of richest Indians. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw holds a Master’s degree from Melbourne University.

Leena Tiwari:

Leena Tewari (Forbes)

Leena is the head of a privately-held company USV Pharma, which deals with diabetic and cardiovascular drugs. The pharma company which started off as a small firm is today a $385 million company. In the 2017 Forbes billionaires list, the media-shy Leena Tewari was ranked at 1030, with a net worth of  $2.1billion. Among the list of richest people in India, she has secured 79th position in the list. MBA graduate from Boston University, she lives with her family in Mumbai. She also penned down a biography on her grandfather titled ‘Beyond Pipes & Dreams – The Life of Vithal Balkrishna Gandhi’.

Indu Jain:

Indu Jain (Forbes)

She is the chairperson of Bennett, Coleman & Co, the organisation that is run by her two sons: Samir and Vineet.  The company publishes The Times of India, Economic Times and several other newspapers in vernacular languages. Apart from that, they also own TV channels: Times Now, ET Now and Zoom. Time and again she has appeared on the Forbes list of the richest Indians. She is also the recipient of Padma Bhushan.
