The wait for metro in Kochi is going to end today when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase at around 10:30 am. PM will start his journey from Palarivattom to Pathadipalam and back. He will be accompanied by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Kerala Governor P Sathasivam, MoUD secretary, Rajiv Gouba and Kerala chief secretary Nalini Netto, as well as E Sreedharan, who is also known as India’s ‘Metro Man’.

The Metro train that PM Modi will board has the design which depicts the beauty of Kochi and is complete with monuments, festivals and other spectacular sights from Kerala. Soon after the metro drive, PM with other dignitaries will go to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kaloor for a public function which will also be attended by representatives of various companies associated with the Metro’s construction, technology providers and coach builders:

These are the 10 points which make the Kochi metro special

To minimise errors, this will be the first metro to use Communication Based Train Control technology
Stations will represent different themes like maritime history, western Ghats as well as the local history of the city to name a few.
The Kochi Metro Rail Corporation will also to employ transgender people in stations
In the year 2013, the construction work of the Kochi Metro started and India’s ‘Metro man’ E Sreedharan who was once the chief of DMRC also acted as an advisor in Kochi metro project.
Around 35% of the power usage will be produced by the solar panels that are put up on each station.
This will be the first time when the metro which is to be inaugurated has the longest first phase. The metro will be covering about 13 km from Palarivattom to Aluva.

With several dignitaries attending the function, French ambassador to India Alexandre Ziegler and German Ambassador to India Dr Martin Nay will attend the inaugural function of Kochi Metro.
