Another incident of moral police thrashing the couples in public has come up with a group of Shiv Sena activists manhandled and threatened several couples sitting at Marine Drive in Kochi on March 8. It was the motley group of Shiv Sena supporters in Kochi who were seen threatening the couples and chasing them away. It was a march where the activities held banners which said,’Stop crime against girls’ while one of the banners read,”love under umbrellas must be stopped.”
The police was also present at the spot when this incident happened. The activists also abused the couple and thrashed them away. However, the media reports claimed that the activists didn’t have a valid permission to hold the march.
As told by the eyewitnesses, the activists who were in a group also charged canes at unaware couples. After this incident, six men were held by the police under non-bailable offences. An Ernakulam central sub-inspector was suspended pending investigation.
Earlier on the valentine’s eve a group of people, allegedly belonging to Bajrang Dal, who were protesting against the celebration of Valentine’s Day, thrashed few couples in Muzaffarnagar in Bihar. News agency ANI has posted a video on their Twitter handle in which several hooligans can be seen running behind the couples and brutally beating them up on the streets of the city. However, any action from the local police has not been reported yet.
