Don’t have enough money to check out the life-sized waxy figures of your favourite celebs at Madame Tussauds? Fret not. The museum is coming to you. The world-renowned Madame Tussauds will be opening a branch in New Delhi, India by Summer 2017. But, I think they forgot to consider one tiny, significant detail; the Delhi heat!
If you stay in Delhi or have ever visited the capital, you’re probably familiar with the wrath of dilli ki garmi. Unless the museum is planning to crank up the AC, full blast, there’s no way they can escape the scorching heat. Anyway, that’s for them to worry about. Everyone’s excited about the upcoming branch which will be located at Regal Cinema in Connaught Place.
The museum’s Delhi branch will be opening as part of the India-UK Year of Culture celebrations that will honour India’s 70 years of independence and India’s relations with the UK. The branch was first announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UK.
“The great partnership between India and the UK extends beyond economic ties to the boards of The Bard and the beaches of Bollywood. We have some of the best cultural exports in the world — and it’s about time we celebrated this, together,” British PM David Cameron had said.
Madame Tussauds already has several branches spread across the world including London, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, Bangkok, Istanbul, Las Vegas, New York, Washington D.C. to name a few. The London branch of Madame Tussauds already features the replicas of a bunch of Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan, and other famous Indian personalities including, Mahatama Gandhi, Sachin Tendulkar, Narendra Modi. The Indian Madame Tussauds will also be featuring some of these same personalities like Modi and Bachchan.
However, the museum already has an eye-sore in store. It is reported that among these famous faces, there will be one of Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Hopefully, this Kejriwal won’t have ink thrown at him.
According to Merlin Entertainment general manager (India) Anshul Jain, the Delhi museum will be Indianised and Delhiites will feel more at home there as compared to the international branches. Merlin Entertainment is the company that runs the chain museums.
The Delhi museum will be Madame Tussauds’ 22nd branch.
