Malaysian PM Najib Razak in awe of Rajinikanth’s Kabali, wants sequel to be made ASAP

Razak became a fan of Rajinikanth during the latter's long stay in Malacca, Malaysia for the shoot of the 2016 film Kabali.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak began his six-day visit from Chennai on Thursday. He met the main lead of Kabali — Rajinikant at his house yesterday and like a typical star-struck fan took a selfie with the superstar. Later, he tweeted about the meeting along with a photo of him with 66-year-old-actor. He wrote: “Just had a very warm and friendly meeting with Rajinikanth, the Tamil superstar, at his home.”

Razak is in the city to receive an honorary doctorate from Thanjavur University. As part of his two-day visit, he is believed to have met Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami.

According to sources close to Rajinikanth, he met Razak over breakfast at his residence. Najib and his wife Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor are known to be big Bollywood and Tamil movie buffs.

“Malaya language takes a lot of words from Sanskrit. The food that we enjoy, the culture, the entertainment…Bollywood movies, Tamil movies. I have become a big fan of Tamil movies. I have visited Chennai…,” Najib said to IANS.

“When we were shooting for Kabali in Malaysia, we were touched by the support Malaysian government extended to us. Due to our busy shooting schedule, I couldn’t meet and thank him (Razak) in Malaysia. “When I learnt he was coming to Chennai, I invited him home. He accepted my invitation and came home. He even saw some portion of Kabali,” Rajinikanth told reporters here.

Asked if the rumour that he was going to replace actor Shah Rukh Khan as the brand ambassador of Malaysian tourism was true, Rajinikanth trashed such reports. Kabali, released in 2016, has its plot in Kaula Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The movie was a super hit in India and abroad.
