A 35-year-old man in Delhi has been arrested after he allegedly chopped off the ears of his three-year-old daughter. The reason that the man gave for the brutal act was that a “ghost threatened to take her away if he did not follow its instructions”. The man has been identified as Amrit Bahadur.
Police said that the family members of the accused have claimed that the man has been “mentally disturbed” after his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter died a few months ago. The family members also claimed that after the death of his daughter, he has been having hallucinations about a “ghost” who keeps warning him of taking away his second child too.
When interrogated, Amrit Bahadur told police that the ghost asked him to make his daughter cry and hence he poured water on the child. He further added that after hearing the child cry, the ghost asked the man to cut off his daughter’s ears. Following the instructions of the ghost, he cut a small portion of one of her ears. However, he claims that the ghost demanded that he should cut off both ears of his daughter hence he did what he was told. He also added that the ghost even asked him to spill more blood after which Bahadur was about to slit his daughter’s neck. But his family came to the room at that moment after hearing the child cry and rescued her. Thereafter, the neighbours also saw the commotion and called the police who alerted Bahadur.
The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday at GTB Enclave. The victim was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital but was later referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Bahadur works as a helper at a restaurant and also cleaned cars. After his elder brother’s death seven years ago, he had married his sister-in-law, who had 4 children. The couple also had two daughters.
