In yet another incident of acid attack, a man threw acid on a 24-year-old woman to teach her a lesson for staring at him. The shocking incident took place at Mumbai’s Dahisar area. The accused, who lives in the same neighbourhood as the woman, was later arrested by the police.
The man who has been identified as Hemant Devkule said he committed the crime as the woman always used to stare at him ‘with hatred and anger’. On Thursday at around 10:45 pm when the woman was going to a public toilet in Ram Nagar area, 25-year-old Devkule walked up close t her and threw toilet cleaner which caused a burning sensation on woman’s back and lips.
One of the police officials said, “Hearing the woman scream, locals rushed to her rescue and poured water on the burns. She was later taken to Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivli where she was treated”.

As per the police, Devkule is unemployed and stays alone at his place whereas his mother and sister live in their native place. After the arrest, he was sent to the police custody till August 28 by the court.

There has been a rise in the number of the acid attacks in the country, with around 83 cases registerd in 2011 to 349 in 2015. The accused does not even think before committing this heinous crime that their action can ruin someone’s life.
