How did it start?
It all started when Deepak Rao, a Bajrang Dal and BJP worker, was hacked to death in broad daylight by four persons at Katipalla near Surathkal. His murder sparked outrage in the region among fellow activists leading to the attack on Basheer.
The four attackers assaulted him with lethal weapons when he was going home after closing his shop. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and a daughter, reports The New Indian Express. Meanwhile, Deepak Rao, 22, was hacked to death in Surathkal in Dakshina Kannada district on the same day when Basheer was attacked.
His murder sparked political outrage with BJP accusing the Congress-led Karnataka government of ignoring the attacks on right-wing activists. Congress, on the other hand, blamed the BJP for communalising issues to gain an advantage in the upcoming elections.
