Markandey Katju dubs singer Abhijeet ‘a donkey’ for mocking retired army general HS Panag

Katju had a scathing response today, for those who trolled General Panag on Twitter, especially Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya.

After getting massive support on Twitter for saying that a civilian tied to an army jeep in Kashmir as a ‘human shield’ against stone-pelters “will haunt the Indian Army”, retired Lieutenant General HS Panag was backed by former Supreme Court Justice Markandey Katju today. Katju had a scathing response today, for those who trolled General Panag on Twitter, especially Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya.

@rwac48 @abhijeetsinger General,when Ghalib was asked y doesnt he respond 2 malicious criticism,he said “If a donkey kicks u, do u kick it back?”.So y do u bother?

Recently, General Panag had on Twitter criticized the Indian Army for tying a civilian to the front of a jeep, saying they had no choice but to use the man as a “human shield” against stone-pelters in a neighbourhood an Army convoy had to go through.

General Panag tweeted:

Image of a ‘stone pelter’ tied in front of a jeep as a ‘human shield’,will 4 ever haunt the Indian Army&the nation!

He also wrote that “whatever the provocation, the Indian Army cannot take recourse to illegal acts.”

Whatever the Provocation, the Indian Armed Forces Cannot Take Recourse to Illegal Acts. I endorse the views! https://t.co/KetiP3YESW

Several people on Twitter came out to support the retired General. Here’re a few posts:

Beats me how he gets away with such badtameezi. Such a terrible blot on the artist community. Apologies to @rwac48 pic.twitter.com/1cxBm7RRgz

Calling a soldier @rwac48 “Pak supporter,” over difference in pov is beyond the pale. Stick to arguments, not ad hominem. https://t.co/DvClu3L5o8

Absolutely unacceptable words for a respected Army officer. If only the Bollywood singer had done even 1% of what @rwac48 did for country.. https://t.co/Fb8TJyUqZq
