For Ajeet Bajaj, climbing the Mount Everest with his daughter was about making a point. He wanted to send a message that the girl child must be celebrated. In a country with an unequal sex ratio in most regions, this message was something. Gurugram residents Ajeet and his daughter Deeya scripted history together when they reached the Everest summit, becoming India’s first father-daughter duo to do so.
Ajeet and Deeya completed their summit within a month and unfurled the Indian tri-colour atop the Everest last week.
For Ajeet, success meant more than conquering Everest. The fact that he could get his message across was more important. It was his way to raise awareness and share the happiness of having fathered a girl.
“The girl child is very very special. Take care of them, look after them, love them and let them follow their dreams,” Ajeet told reporters after they reached back safely from the Everest base camp.
